How to Transfer Your XBox Soundtracks to Your PC

The Xbox video game console was not designed to be able to share its contents with a Windows-based computer. This has caused gamers to modify the Xbox to allow for these functions to be possible. It is possible to adjust the Xbox so that it can do this without having to modify it, however. The process is involved, but when done, will let you transfer Xbox soundtracks from its hard drive to the hard drive of your computer.

    • Windows-based computer
    • Microsoft Xbox USB adapter
    • Xbox memory card
    • GameSaves accessory

        Connect the Xbox to the home network. Turn the Xbox on. Go to "Network Setup" from the Home menu. Write down the IP address of the Xbox that is listed there. Attach the Gamesaves cable to the Xbox and to the USB port of the Windows-based computer.

        Connect the computer to the home network. Go to the Emergency Linux website using the computer's web browser and download the "Emergency Linux savefile" to the desktop.

        Attach the Gamesaves accessory to the computer's USB port. Insert the Xbox memory card into the Gamesaves' memory slot.

        Go to "start" and then "MyComputer" and then "Devices" to locate the Xbox memory card in the open window. Drag the Emergency Linux savefile from the desktop into the Xbox memory card. Eject the Xbox memory card from the "Devices" window when the copy is complete. Remove the Gamesaves accessory from the computer's USB port. Remove the Xbox memory card from the Gamesaves accessory.

        Insert the Xbox memory card into the Microsoft Xbox USB adapter. Plug the Microsoft Xbox USB adapter into the XBox controller port. Turn the Xbox on. Transfer the Emergency Linux savefile from the Xbox memory card to the Xbox's hard drive using the XBox Dashboard. Turn off the XBox. Remove the Microsoft Xbox USB adapter and remove the Xbox memory card from the Microsoft Xbox USB adapter.

        Insert the Mech Assault game disc. Run the Mech Assault game. Select the "Run Linux" campaign from the game's options.

        Download and install the SmartFTP client to the desktop of the computer. Also, download and install the Xbox Save Manager to the desktop of the computer. Restart the computer.

        Run the SmartFTP software and connect to the Xbox using the IP address that was written down, and "xbox" for the username and password. Run the Xbox Save Manager and enter in the same information to activate it.

        Use the Xbox Save Manager to access the soundtracks from the Xbox's hard drive and transfer them to the computer in tandem with the SmartFTP software. Quit the Xbox Save Manager program and quit the SmartFTP software. Eject the Mech Assault disc from the Xbox and turn the Xbox off.

    • A wired home network will transfer files more swiftly from the Xbox to the computer than if a wireless network is being used.

    • Adding files to the Xbox's hard drive could lead to corruption and other unexpected issues with its operating system.
