  1. Eliminate the Enemy

    • 1

Cut the estrogen. Testosterone/estrogen is one of the most common hormone imbalances people have. It is usually too much estrogen and too little testosterone. Many of the plastics in our environment contain BPA, a chemical that acts like estrogen in the body. Removing from your diet things that come into contact with plastic can go a long way toward helping this imbalance. Cutting out the other chemicals that are in non-organic fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat also can help.

    • 2

Remove soy and fluoride. Your thyroid is the second of the top three hormone issues in the body. Most often the problem is an under-active thyroid, and that probably is caused by these two substances. Soy in larger doses, such as might be seen in a vegetarian diet, can have a dramatic effect on the thyroid over the long term. Fluoride also binds to the same binding site as iodine in the thyroid, thus clogging the receptor sites and decreasing thyroid function. If your thyroid is sluggish, try eliminating as much of these two things as possible.

Cut the sugar. Insulin is the third hormone with which many people have problems. Insulin is secreted in response to high blood sugar, which typically happens when you eat a meal high in carbohydrates and low in protein, fat or fiber. If you cut back on your sugar intake, your need for insulin will decrease and your body can become sensitive to insulin again.

    Encourage Your Friends

Exercise more. Regular exercise, especially resistance training, can help promote a number of hormones. Start with walking and build to five or six days a week for up to 30 minutes. Do resistance training three days a week for 30 to 45 minutes at a time.

Boost your testosterone. There are a number of ways to boost your testosterone but through diet the best way is to increase your consumption of healthy, organic, grass-fed meat. The protein will help you build muscle, and the fat is used for a number of different functions including the building of testosterone. Eating more protein and fat also will also help cut insulin. In addition, supplements can be taken for testosterone. Estrogenex (link below) is great for preventing testosterone from being turned into estrogen, and DHEA (also linked below) is the building block of testosterone.

Boost your thyroid. There are a number of herbs that can help to boost your thyroid. Guggulsterones are like caffeine for your thyroid and are great for increasing your thyroid activity. Iodine from kelp gives your body the mineral it needs to build the thyroid hormone. NOW has a thyroid formula (linked below) that has both of these ingredients and more that all work together to increase your thyroid function.

Tips & Warnings

  • Most people actually have all of these imbalances, although usually only one sticks out. Start working on the imbalance you feel most strongly, and then work on the others. Try one tip to start, and add another tip each week.

  • Do not overdo it with exercise. Start small. If you do too much you might injure yourself or be very sore the next day. You might want to employ a personal trainer to help you.
