Instructions

    • 1

Fill half an ice cube tray with white vinegar.

    • 2

Place the ice cube tray in your freezer and leave it there until it's completely frozen.

    • 3

Remove the vinegar cubes from the tray and put them into your garbage disposal.

    • 4

Pour 1/3 cup of baking soda into the garbage disposal.

    • 5

Cut a lemon into quarters and place one quarter into the garbage disposal. Save the other pieces for later cleaning. Alternately, use slices of an orange or lime for a different fragrance.

    • 6

Allow the ingredients to sit on the blades for five to 10 minutes.

    • 7

Turn on the disposal and allow it to run until you can no longer hear the vinegar cubes being broken down. This usually will take 30 seconds to one minute. As the blades cut through the cubes, the vinegar will clean the garbage disposal as the baking soda helps to absorb odors. The lemon will release a fresh citric fragrance.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never put your fingers anywhere near the garbage disposal while it is turned on.

  • Avoid wearing loose clothing while working near a garbage disposal.
