How to Do Streetball Crossovers
The crossover is one of the simplest, yet most effective moves you can use on the basketball court to get around your defender. If done correctly, it can open up space on the court so you can dribble by your defender, shoot the ball or pass to someone else on your team. The objective is to get your defender off balance to give you enough time to execute one of your triple-threat options.

Dribble toward your defender. The crossover works best when you are moving your feet forward toward your defender. From here, pick which way you want to go and start dribbling with the opposite hand. So if you want to go left, start dribbling with your right hand. These instructions are for a right-to-left crossover.

Start your move. To begin your crossover, make a move like you are going to the right. Moving your shoulders and upper body will help convince your defender that you are actually going that way. With your right hand, cup the ball as best you can without getting your palm completely underneath the ball, which could be called for a travel violation. In street ball, where the rules are more lenient, you will be able to put your palm under the ball, allowing you to make a more dramatic change in direction. Make sure to stick your right arm out as far as you can with the ball, so the defender will follow it.

Change direction. As you cup the ball in your right hand, plant your right foot hard on the ground and prepare to push off to change direction to your left. Dribble the ball back into your left hand and shift your weight back to your left side.

Finish the move. From here, your defender should be enough out of your way that you will be able to have some space to dribble forward, pass or shoot.
