Things You'll Need:
- Soap for sensitive skin
- 2.5% benzoyl peroxide cream
- Oil-free moisturizer
-
Step 1
Cleanse the skin with a soap or cleanser formulated for sensitive skin. Using a soap that is designed to reduce oil or to treat dry skin can either be too irritating or can clog your pores. The former will cause the skin to become overly dry, leading to an overproduction of oil to compensate; the latter can cause even more acne breakouts. A soap designed for sensitive skin will not contain harsh chemicals and will clean the skin without drying it out or clogging the pores. Be as gentle as possible and avoid scrubbing at all costs. Lather your face and rinse it clean with water.

Step 2
Medicate the skin using a low-strength benzoyl peroxide cream. Benzoyl peroxide is one of the most powerful acne-fighters available and can be purchased in strengths of 2.5 percent, 5 percent and 10 percent. It may seem desirable to use the highest-strength cream to treat acne, but this will burn the skin and cause severe irritation. Use the lowest-strength cream available.
Squeeze a pea-sized amount onto the skin and gently smooth it around your face with your fingertips until it's completely absorbed. Avoid the eye area and do not rub the cream in. -
Step 3
Moisturize the skin using a moisturizing lotion that is oil free and designed for sensitive skin types. A lotion that is oil free will not clog the pores, and one that is formulated for sensitive skin types will not contain strong ingredients that could aggravate the skin. Use an amount roughly the size of a dime, and smooth it on gently. Avoid rubbing the lotion in too firmly. Simply allow the fingertips to spread the lotion around the face until it has been absorbed. Keep the lotion away from the eye area, as it can contain some of the benzoyl peroxide cream once applied to the face. Use the oil-free lotion every time after the benzoyl peroxide cream is used to keep the skin clear yet soft and hydrated.
