Before you start cleaning your pool, you must know the proper way to vacuum a pool with a pump and filter so that you have enough power to run the vacuum. The vacuum works with the pool pump and filtration system to clean the bottom of the pool and remove debris that if left in the water can cause algae and unsafe water for swimming. The pool should be vacuumed once weekly or more depending on use and the amount of debris in the pool.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pool vacuum head
  • Pool vacuum hose
  • Vacuum skimmer plate
  • Pool pole
  1. Step 1

Turn the pump selection dial to filter. This will override the automatic filtering times and allow the pump filter to run for the time that you are using the vacuum.

  2. Step 2

Connect the vacuum head to the pool pole. Attach the pool hose to the vacuum head. Attach the skimmer plate to the other end of the hose.

  3. Step 3

Place the vacuum head in the water and place the length of hose in the water. Place the end with the skimmer plate on over the water outlet hole in the water. Hold it there and allow the hose to fill with water.

  4. Step 4

Hold your hand over the skimmer plate after the hose is filled with water and place it on the skimmer basket. The suction of the skimmer will hold the plate in place for vacuuming.

  5. Step 5

Grab the pool pole and vacuum steps first in the shallow end of the pool. Next, glide the vacuum across the pool floor slowly as to not disturb the water too much. Continue this process until the entire pool floor is cleaned.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you start to lose suction, stop and empty out the skimmer basket, which might be clogging from all the debris being vacuumed up.
