Instructions

    • 1

Clean your hands thoroughly, especially your fingernails.

    • 2

Hold a firm, fresh apple in one hand and with the other, score the apple skin with a clean fingernail vertically. Go all the way around, from the stem to the bottom and back up again, so that the skin sealing is broken.

    • 3

Hold the apple on either side of the score marks with both hands.

    • 4

Apply pressure and twist the apple firmly. The apple will separate into halves.

    • 5

Repeat the scoring and separation steps if you want to slice the apple into smaller bits.

Tips & Warnings

  • Macintosh, Gala and Delicious apples are the easiest to core because the flesh is less dense than other kinds of apples.

  • Always clean your hands before you touch food. Carrying a small container of hand sanitizer with you at all times makes this easy.

  • Do not pick and eat apples without permission from the tree's owner. Most pay-and-pick orchards will evict you if they discover you are eating the fruit from their trees, so have patience and pay before you have your snack.
