How to Find a Chenille Robe

For a soothing relaxation experience, wrap up in a plush chenille robe. This ultra-soft fabric is like velvet, but with a deeper, more nubby pile. However, chenille quality ranges from poor to deluxe, with most falling in between. To buy a good chenille bathrobe, look for clues that point to a long-lasting, well-crafted garment.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start your chenille robe quest in a store that sells well-crafted merchandise. Chances are you won't find a good chenille robe in a shop that carries a lot of cheaply made products. Don't count out larger designer discounters like Marshall's; these stores often get high-end goods that are overstocks from more expensive retailers.

  2. Step 2

Be aware that a really good chenille robe might be a bit heavy. Chenille with a very dense weave is the silkiest, but will also weigh a fair amount. However, this extra density is wonderful on a cold winter night, so don't count out a hefty garment.

  3. Step 3

Find a chenille robe that is woven from cotton or silk. These fibers will absorb moisture best and have the most comfortable amount of ventilation. Avoid synthetic fibers, since they won't breathe as well and will not wick moisture well.

  4. Step 4

Buy a design that best suits your needs. Those who air-dry their hair may benefit from a hood, while some people love curling up on the couch and covering their legs with a full-length model. Remember: a longer robe will result in potentially dense fabric impeding your every step, so think twice if you're clumsy.

  5. Step 5

Check the tag for the place of origin of the robe. In recent years, several women have died from wearing flammable chenille robes. The law firm of Raymond and Bennett, representing the burn victims, writes, "The CPSC has said that the products fail to meet federal flammability standards. All of the items are made of plush sculpted chenille with a label that states '100% Cotton, RN81700, Made in Pakistan.' " Be vigilant of where your robe comes from to make sure that it passes national safety standards.
