How to Freeze Blueberries or Blackberries
Freezing blueberries and blackberries is a great way to preserve freshness. Soon after they have been freshly picked or purchased in season is the best time to freeze these berries. Having frozen fresh berries in the freezer will let you add them to homemade scones, pies and muffins, all year round. No longer will you need to wait until berries are in season to enjoy these treats. Things You'll Need
- Fresh blueberries or blackberries
- Colander
- Sheet pan
- Freezer bags
- Marking pen

Begin with very fresh, very ripe berries.

Rinse the berries thoroughly with cold water.

Drain the berries in a colander until they are as dry as possible.

Spread the berries in a single layer on a sheet pan. If a sheet pan will not fit in your freezer, you may use a bowl or other type of container, but arranging the berries in a single layer will help prevent them from sticking together as they freeze.

Put the berries in the freezer for about 24 hours.

Place the berries in an airtight, freezer-safe container, such as a freezer bag. Try to get as much air out as possible. Use a vacuum sealer, if you have one.

Label the bags of berries. Include the type of berry and the date that they were frozen.

Keep the berries in the freezer for up to a year.
