How to Care for a Viola Cornuta Plant

Viola cornuta plants resemble small pansies. They flower from low, bushy stems and come in a variety of colors, from brilliant yellow to soft lavender. These plants can grow nearly anywhere, in climates temperate to warm, dying back every winter and blooming each spring. All varieties of viola cornuta grow low to the ground, making them popular for edging gardens and walkways. They are also low maintenance, requiring little care to keep them blooming all season.

Instructions

1. Plant viola cornuta in places with partial shade to full sun. These flowers cannot grow in complete shade.

2. Water viola cornuta only during drought. Water them until the ground is moist, waiting until the topsoil is dry before watering again. These plants can grow in any type of soil.

3. Pluck dead blooms from your plants whenever you see them. This will stimulate the plant to produce new blooms longer.

4. Push the dead growth away from the seedlings in spring so that the seedlings have room to grow. Leave as much dead growth as possible to add nutrients to the soil.
