Things You'll Need:
- Ink Pen
- Paper
- Envelope
-
Step 1
Get out a pencil and paper. You can also use your personal computer to type out this letter. You can also print out a letter provided in the resources links near the bottom of the page.
-
Step 2
Write a letter that states that you understand that you are in debt and are doing everything you can to get paid up.
Let them understand that you know your rights provided in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, [15 USC 1692c] Section 805(c). Let them know that you demand they cease communication with you. The have to stop calling you after receiving this letter. -
Step 3
Mail your letter certified mail and pay the extra dollar to have a paper copy of proof of delivery.
-
Step 4
When the proof of delivery arrives file it somewhere you will remember just in case you need to use it. The credit card company basically has to stop calling you now. They can only call you to inform you of these two things:
* They are no longer going to make collection efforts on debt owed.
* They are taking a specific course of action against you to recover your debt.
