Things You'll Need:
- Cookies
- Cookie cutters and ingredients for cookies if you are making them yourself
- Decorations for cookies
- ribbons
- clear gift bags
- gift tags
- decorations such as miniature bells or holly to tie in with ribbons
-
Step 1
If you are a baker then baking cookies may come very easy for you for this party favor idea. Find your favorite butter or sugar cookie recipe along with a cookie cutter or two that is in keeping with the holiday season. You could use cookie cutters in the shapes of bells and snowflakes likes the one I used in the photo. I found that those two shapes had a very elegant feel to them. You could also use cookie cutters in the shapes of a Christmas Tree, Gift Box, Sleigh, SnowMan, Reindeer or Candy Cane if you this that those would complement your party theme. Think about who the party is for and for what occasion to help decide the shapes.
-
Step 2
If you are not a baker, call local bakeries for help. Ask them to make you cookies, decorated or plain, in the shapes that you are interested in and you will pay by the cookie. The most time consuming part of making these homemade party favors will be baking the cookies and having them turn out just right. If that seems stressful to you don't mess with it! Find a bakery and make these party favor idea a breeze!
-
Step 3
Once you have your cookies, you will want to lay them on a hard flat surface one at a time to work on. You can drizzle them with melted chocolate, decorate them with royal icing pipped from a bag, or leave them plain. When they are decorated and dry you are ready to add the ribbon. Again, on a hard flat surface, work on one cookie at a time. You are going to find a portion of the cookie that is wide enough to pierce to run a ribbon through. I encourage you to consider the cookie's thickness when piercing them. If they are a thin cookie, work with a very thin petal object to pierce them with. Some good examples are a knitting needle, a skewer, or even the end of a thin meat thermometer. If you have a thicker cookie to work with I encourage you to still be as gentle as possible when piercing the cookies. After they all have a small hole, you can run a ribbon through them to give them some color and a finished look.
-
Step 4
If attempting to pierce all of those cookies seems too stressful or time consuming, you could also cut and tie individual bows, place a dab or royal icing on the cookie, and adhere the ribbon that way to the cookie to dress it up.
-
Step 5
After the cookies have sat and are completely dry, its time to bag them. Gently place each cookie, or a few cookies per bag if that is what you had planned for, into the clear plastic party favor bags. Tie ribbons around them tightly so that the cookies stay fresh.
-
Step 6
Finally, when all of the cookies are bagged and ready, you will need to add a label or a gift tag to these homemade party favors to finish them off. You can add tags that say the name and date for the occasion, or you can come up with a cute saying that represents the day. Think about the holidays as you are deciding what to write. On the homemade party favors that are shown in the photos, I wrote "Let the merriment of this day continue throughout your holiday season!"
-
Step 7
Place all of your homemade party favors in a gift basket for your guests to take from as they leave. If you like you could also place them at each seat for your guests to receive when they first arrive. Since its a Christmas or holiday theme, consider placing the party favors in a basket that is decorated with greens, holly and ribbon.
