Things You'll Need:
- Honda manual

Step 1
As I mentioned in a similar article on car maintenance, finding an excellent mechanic is tremendously important in getting the most longevity out of your Honda car. Just as important is finding a mechanic that specializes in Hondas. They will know this car inside and out and will know where they can find good, used replacement parts to help save you money.
-
Step 2
Using high quality oil every time you change it is also important. Although you might think going to Jiffy Lube or some other quick drive through oil change place is the way to go, you will get young, inexperienced workers who do not know your car and may put inferior oil into it. Bring your car to your mechanic for your oil change. If they are really great, they will even walk you through how to do this yourself. That would be another great moneysaver, but it is not for everyone.
-
Step 3
Another important step in maintaining your Honda car is driving it properly. Quick starts and stops are not recommended; they are hard on a car. So is in town driving. Of course some in town driving can't be avoided but using the freeway if it is moving is good for your car. Driving in snow can be tricky. The rule is to turn into the skid. Also, if you drive in snow, don't slow down when going up a hill otherwise you will lose momentum and the car will stop. It's important to learn to drive in snow to avoid accidents and damage to your car.
-
Step 4
Finally, follow your Honda manual to find out when the critical timeframes are for getting things like the water pump replaced. If you don't replace your water pump on time and it goes it can ruin your engine.
