Saving money on energy costs is a big concern for those living in cold climates. As the winter months approach the cost of heating homes goes up, up and up. That is something most home owners simply cannot take, more lost money. As the economy continues to be bad, saving money at any turn is a welcome idea and the heating bill is of those turns.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Search for the best option when using plastic window covers as energy saving and money saving tools. There are many options, so do some homework and decide first if the plastic window covering is the right energy savings option.

  2. Step 2

After deciding that plastic window covering can help save money, search the windows in the house that are the main money eaters. Many older homes may have a mix of new and old windows, requiring a little research. Don't waste time or money covering the newer windows, focus on the older ones.

  3. Step 3

Cover up the cracks in between the glass and window frame. Make sure the plastic is forming a seal over the window frame and not just the window glass. That is where the cold air rushes into, wasting the heat and driving up heating cost. Leaving those cracks open is like tossing money out of them.

  4. Step 4

Follow the directions properly. Cutting corners will reduce the cost cutting aspect of the plastic covering.
