How to Unlock Baby Luigi on "Mario Kart Wii"

In "Mario Kart Wii," there is a group of secret characters that only become available after certain requirements have been met. One of these characters is Baby Luigi, a smaller version of Luigi, one half of the Super Mario Bros.. Baby Luigi is a small character which gives him access to a selection of lightweight karts and bikes. These vehicles typically have faster acceleration than larger cars and their lower weight allows them to travel more quickly over rough terrain. The drawback is they are prone to being pushed around by larger characters during frantic sections of a race.

Instructions

    • 1

Start "Mario Kart Wii" and open the single player menu. Chose "Time Trials" from the list of gameplay modes.

    • 2

Select any character, then any track from the list of available courses. Choose to race the Nintendo staff ghost by selecting the ghost data whose name begins with "Nin."

    • 3

Beat the time set by the staff ghost by at least seven seconds to unlock the Expert Staff Ghost. The ghosts will be racing alongside you, but they are transparent and cannot interact with you. Use the three boosts you are given at the start to boost through straightaways or cut corners by boosting over large patches of grass and dirt.

    • 4

Continue beating the staff ghosts on seven more courses. After unlocking eight Expert Staff Ghosts, Baby Luigi becomes available.

Tips & Warnings

  • Not all ghosts need to be beaten by seven seconds. Some need to be beaten by only four seconds. The exact times for each course are unclear, but shoot for seven seconds on each course to be sure. A notification saying "A fast staff ghost has appeared" will show after completing the race if you are successful.
