During cold and flu season, most people know how important it is to wash their hands frequently, use hand sanitizer and avoid contact with people who are sick. Although these precautions are effective at preventing sickness, such as the flu, it's also important to add proper nutrition to your arsenal of defenses. In fact, there are several foods that have been proven to boost your immune system and help you fight off the flu.

Things You'll Need:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Garlic
  • Yogurt
  • Lemon Juice
  1. Step 1

Eat a diet of colorful fruits and vegetables to prevent the flu. Brightly colored foods contain high levels of antioxidants like Vitamin C and Beta Carotene. Some suggested foods to include in your diet are carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach and dark leaf lettuce.

  2. Step 2

Add more garlic to your diet to stimulate white blood cells and prevent the flu. You can also take garlic supplements if you don't like to eat garlic itself.

  3. Step 3

Drink four tablespoons of lemon juice per day to maintain the proper PH level in the body. This allows healthy bacteria to thrive and fight infection.

  4. Step 4

Eat more yogurt, preferably the kind with probiotics in them. You should aim for eating two servings of live culture yogurt per day. Not only will this strengthen the digestive system, but it will also strengthen the immune system as well.
