Use standard cook's measuring spoons. Do not use teaspoons and soup spoons from your flatware set. They may vary in size.

Measure 3 tsp. for 1 tbsp. Teaspoon is often abbreviated to t. or tsp., and tablespoon may be abbreviated T. or tbsp. Other short forms may be used as well.

Measure 1 1/2 tsp. for 1/2 tbsp. Some sets of measuring spoons include a 1/2 tbsp. size, but many do not.

Measure 2 tbsp. for 1 oz. If you do not have a tablespoon measuring spoon, measure 6 tsp. instead to equal 1 oz. These are standard measurements for cooking and for diluting common cleaners. You can use a standard liquid measuring cup for ounces as well.

For medicines, ask your pharmacist for special measuring devices that measure teaspoons, tablespoons or ounces, depending on the medication. You want the most accurate possible measurement for medicine, but standard kitchen measuring spoons and cups are fine for recipes.
Never use teaspoons or soup spoons from your silverware set to measure medicine.
