      Set goals for yourself to help make sure you realize your potential. Set long term goals and then set shorter interim goals that will help you to reach those long-term goals. We tend to try harder to accomplish things when we have goals for ourselves.

      Let other people know what your goals are. Letting others know your goals will help to prevent you from discarding them. We tend to want to live up to others expectations for ourselves as well as our own expectations.

      Create a vision board. A vision board is simply a board that has visuals of the you that you want to become. It could have pictures of a thinner you, or you in your career. Whatever your dreams are, visualizing them will help you to be mentally prepared to achieve them and it will help you to focus on them. Keep the vision board in a place where you will easily see it everyday.

      Avoid the doubters and associate yourself with people who have faith in you and your potential. You will encounter people in life, even family members or acquaintances, who will be quick to tell you what you cannot do. They may question you or make comments that do seem very supportive. However, do not let that deter you. If you know that your dream is respectable and achievable, then it does not matter that it is challenging. You can achieve it and you need to listen to the people who tell you you can.

      Try new things. You may never realize the things that you have talent for or just simply love if you do not try them. Trying new things will help you to realize just what your potential really is.

      Give up the excuses. Excuses like not having the time or being to old, or not having the talent can strangle our potential. Write all of your excuses down on a piece of paper. Then one by one, write down why each excuse is a poor excuse and then cross them off of your list.
