Step 1) Thomas Merton, the acclaimed spiritual writer, once wrote "DayDreaming is an evasion." And this came from a writer! The first step in stopping your daydreaming is the REALIZATION THAT YOU ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS. You are probably not the golfer taking on Tiger Woods on the final hole of the Masters, or the great Civil Rights Leader, you are probably just an ordinary man or woman. Come back to Reality!

Step 2) After having realized that you are not the idealized image of yourself of which you conceive in your head, find out what you ACTUALLY ENJOY. Do you love to write (and everyone else has told you that you were going to be a great doctor)? More often than not, the things that we enjoy are the things that we are going to make the necessary sacrifices to accomplish. Find out what you enjoy and much of your daydreaming will cease as you will hone in on your naturally abilities.

Step 3) For many people, daydreaming is more than mental laziness--it can be a sign of the artist's temperment. All writers worth their salt have vivid and plot-filled imaginations. For those of you like me, I suggest to spend at least 2-3 hours everyday writing. Write for ehow, write poems, write short stories, work on a book. If you are trully committed to stopping your daydreaming, focus is your best ally.
