Step 1
The first step is to smile even when you do not feel like it. There was a famous clown who suffered depression and no one ever knew. Decades later when he admitted it, he said he overcame it by laughing through it.
-
Step 2
The next step is to let yourself have one big cry. You can cry as long as you want nonstop. Feel everything leaving your system. This will help you start your new attitude from the ground up. After you finish crying make a commitment not to do it again- EVER unless there is a very serious and good reason (e.g. someone you love passed away).
-
Step 3
Now look at your diet. Make sure that you have pleanty of protein such as eggs and cheese with breakfast to help you have energy all day long to avoid the energy low that can push you to sadness.
-
Step 4
Now bulk up on fiber and carbohydrates for long lasting energy and to help your digestive system process foods over time to give you a level energy supply. This will help avoid the lows and highs that can cause problems.
-
Step 5
Now try to exercise at least 30 minutes a few times a week. This helps oxygen move through your body to cheer you up and release natural hormones.
-
Step 6
Try to minimize sugar intake because it may cause you to crash after the initial alertness.
-
Step 7
Try to minimize anything with caffeine including chocate. Caffeine tends to increase insulin release in the blood which lowers the blood sugar levels and makes you feel less certain, less alert, and sometimes less happy.
-
Step 8
Drink several liters of water a day. This will help cleanse you system of toxins that can bring you down.
-
Step 9
Turn on and list to upbeat fast moving music. If you usually listen to sad music try avoiding it for a few weeks and see if that helps your emotions.
-
Step 10
Find a release such as writing e-how articles, painting, composing music, or boxing. This will help you let your emotions out so they do not consume you and bring you down.
-
Step 11
Try prayers if you are religion. These can help you feel more connected. If you are not religion try talking things out to yourself (just do this in private so no one thinks that you are crazy lol).
