Things You'll Need:
- Clear jar with lid
- Water
- Food color
- Mineral oil or vegetable oil
- Glitter (optional)
-
Step 1
Collect jarsCollect a variety of jars in different sizes and shapes. Be sure they are clear and have a lid of some kind. Screw-top lids are best to prevent spillage, but corks make a unique presentation if the sun catchers are for decoration only.
-
Step 2
Add water and colorantFill each jar half full with warm water. Add a few drops of food coloring of choice and stir till water is colored.
-
Step 3
Sprinkle glitterSprinkle glitter in jar as an optional additive to give additional sparkle when the sun catches it.
-
Step 4
Add oilAdd mineral or vegetable oil, slowly, to the water in the jar. Mineral oil will give a more clear view through the glass and vegetable will be more yellowish. Add enough oil to fill the jar, then cap or cork the opening.
-
Step 5
Sun catchersPlace liquid sun catchers in a window or on a shelf where they can beautifully reflect the sun's rays.
