Liquid sun catchers are a breeze to make. They're a great childrens' project and can double as a science experiment. Sun catchers can be made in different size jars, with different colors and mix and matched to suit any decor or even specially made for the holiday season.

Collect a variety of jars in different sizes and shapes. Be sure they are clear and have a lid of some kind. Screw-top lids are best to prevent spillage, but corks make a unique presentation if the sun catchers are for decoration only.

  2. Step 2
    Add water and colorant

Sprinkle glitter in jar as an optional additive to give additional sparkle when the sun catches it.

  4. Step 4
    Add oil
    Add oil

Add mineral or vegetable oil, slowly, to the water in the jar. Mineral oil will give a more clear view through the glass and vegetable will be more yellowish. Add enough oil to fill the jar, then cap or cork the opening.
