How to Fix a Leaking Refrigerator
One of the most common problems with a refrigerator is noticing a pool of water near the base on the floor. Usually the problem is an easy fix and can be repaired in a few minutes. Check a few common issues before you call the repair technician so you can save yourself the costly repair visit. Call the repair technician only after you have checked everything and have done all that is possible for you to do. Sometimes the fridge can be on its way out and the water is a warning sign. Locate where the water is coming from. Knowing where the water is coming from can help you identify the problem faster.

Pull the refrigerator out from the wall and check the ice-maker hoses. Tighten the hoses if necessary. Check for leaks and replace lines if you find a hole. This is not a common problem, but it can happen. Turn off the water to your refrigerator. Unscrew the old lines and screw the new ones in.

Check the rubber seals around your doors. Tug gently on the door and look around the edges to see if you have a good seal. Wash the seals with warm water and a sponge. Allow it to dry completely and rub a thin line of petroleum jelly along the seal.

Pull the drain pan from under your refrigerator and check for leaks or cracks. Purchase a new pan from the manufacturer if your pan is damaged.

Located your defrost drain. It can be in the bottom of your refrigerator or freezer. Remove any debris from the drain and thaw it out if it has iced over. Run a hair dryer over the drain for a few seconds to remove any ice or pour a small amount of warm water over the hole.
