How to Make a Fabric Cloth Cover for Jam Jelly Jars

Decorate your jam and jelly jars for gift giving instead of handing out plain old jars. Fabric is the perfect medium to use for decorating jar lids because it can be molded and it is offered in a variety of styles and colors to match your theme. Use seasonal fabrics for holiday gift giving or choose a food patterned fabric to match what is in the jar.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a piece of fabric flat with the design facing down. Use a pencil to trace the jar lid onto the backside of the fabric. Roughly, sketch a circle around the tracing that is 1 inch larger than the lid. Use sharp scissors or pinking shears to cut out the sketched circle.

    • 2

Apply non-toxic fabric glue to the top of the jar lid. Non-toxic liquid white glue or craft glue will also work if fabric glue is not available.

    • 3

Center the cut fabric over the jar lid with the design facing up and then smooth the fabric gently using your fingertips to remove air bubbles. Press the fabric down around the edges of the jar lid to secure.

    • 4

Wrap a ribbon around the fabric along the outer edge of the jar lid and tie it into a bow. Screw the lid onto the jar and store or give as a gift.
