1
Prepare the room. Tape off the trim, window sills and door frames in the room to protect them. Spread tarps on the floor, and move furniture to the center of the room to protect the pieces from paint splatters or drips.
-
2
Paint the room with a base coat of primer, and then use painter's tape to divide the wall into three sections. The top portion will be painted to look like the sky, the middle section to look like the track and the bottom to look like grass, so choose colors and widths to reflect that.

-
3
Paint the sections in your chosen colors, and remove the painter's tape by scoring the edges with a utility knife. This helps prevent the tape from pulling the paint off the walls.
-
4
Cut the pool noodles into two-inch sections with the electric knife. The noodle sections will form a border for the race track, so cut them into two-inch sections to look like safety barrels.
-
5
Hot glue the noodle sections to the wall on both sides of the track.
-
6
Add short pieces of reflective tape to the racetrack to represent lanes or other racetrack safety features.
-
7
Hot glue toy cars around the racetrack to simulate a race. You can either glue the cars with their wheels on the track, or glue their sides to the wall so that the side of the car faces the inside of the room.
-

Paint as many other details as you desire. You can add many details like foliage, a grandstand, race fans, pit crews, a finish line and advertising.

Tips & Warnings
You can use many household materials to make other parts of the racetrack mural three-dimensional. For example, you might want to create greenery out of craft foam and fuzzy colored pom poms. If you want to add dimension to the spectators, use craft foam for their faces, and glue googly eyes onto their faces.
If you remove the decorations carefully, the hot glue will peel right off the wall without causing any damage.
Open the windows to ventilate the room while you are working, and make sure you allow the room to dry completely before you move the furniture back into place. If paint fumes bother you, wear a mask and increase airflow into the workspace by turning on fans.
