Borax is a very versatile substance. Make a Borax laundry booster for every load of laundry and it will do more than just clean your clothes: add a Borax mixture to the wash cycle and it will increase the life of your clothes, clean and protect cloth fibers, use less detergent, and the Borax will naturally eliminate many of the harmful chemicals that can attach themselves to clothes after washing.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 cups Borax
  • 1 cup powdered detergent
  • Plastic container with lid
  1. Step 1

Place 4 cups of Borax into a container that has a lid and is big enough to contain an additional cup of detergent.

  2. Step 2

Add 1 cup of powdered detergent. Close the lid and give the container a shake until the Borax and detergent have blended thoroughly.

  3. Step 3

Do a load of laundry as normal. Dispense the correct amount of laundry detergent into the tub while the water is still filling the washer. Let the washing machine fill completely with water and begin to agitate before adding the Borax laundry booster to the load.

  4. Step 4

Add 1/2 cup of the homemade Borax laundry booster to the washing machine once it begins to agitate the clothes. Make sure that none of the mixture gets on clothes that are above the water line; if needed, use your hand to push the fabric and laundry booster under the water line. Close the lid of the washing machine and let the load run through the entire wash cycle.

Tips & Warnings
  • Borax can be toxic when swallowed by humans or animals. Always keep Borax products away from children and pets to prevent ingestion and potential poisoning.
