How to Make Text Blend With Texture in Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is one of the most popular and widely use graphics programs in the world. It has a host of abilities that are useful for graphic artists, advertising agencies and ordinary people who want to create extraordinary images. One particularly popular technique that is is often used for advertising as well as for web page design is applying textures to text. This can produce very dramatic results, and is easily accomplished using Photoshop.

      Decide what you want to type in as your text. Then select the texture that you want to use in your document. There are a number of ways to get this texture. You could simply use one of your own by loading a photograph from your digital camera or scanning in an image using a scanner set to it's highest possible resolution. There are also commercial sites where you can purchase and download texture packs you can use. In addition, there are many free texture sites, such as Mayang.com, that give you access to hundreds or thousands of textures you can use without charge.

      Open Photoshop. Select "File" and click "New." In the dialog box that opens set the pixel width and height to to whatever you need for your project. Set the pixel resolution to 72 if the image is going on the web. Set it to at least 200 pixels if it needs quality printing. Click "OK."

      Select the "Text" tool from the toolbar and in the options at the top select the font style you want to use. Also select the size of the font. Now type in your text. If you decide you don't like the text font and want to change it, highlight the text and select a different one from the options at the top. The text will automatically change to that font.

      Select "File" and then click "Open." Browse to the texture file you want to use that you saved to your computer. Click "Select" from the menu and click "Select All."
      Select "Edit" and click "Copy." Now go back to your text document, select "Edit" and click "Paste." The texture is now covering your text.

      Go to the "Layers" panel and select the text layer. Now select the "Magic Wand" tool from the toolbar and click on the area outside the text. Select the texture layer again and hit delete on your keyboard. The texture has now been applied to the text. Save your file.
