How to Calculate Total Price for Square Foot Flooring
The most commonly changed part of a home is the floor. Among the largest section of any home improvement store, flooring is one the fastest things to change the look of any house. Depending on the type of flooring, it also can be the least expensive or one of the highest-priced parts of the house. When looking into replacing flooring, the first thing to determine is the total cost of the flooring to determine if it will fit in the budget. Does this Spark an idea?

Determine the Size of the Room

Sketch the room(s) on the graph paper.

Measure the length and width of each room for the new floor. Make sure to include any hallways and doorways to be covered. Transfer these measurements onto the drawing.

Determine the total area to be covered. Add 10 percent to the total for scrap and waste.

Pick out the flooring. Most home improvement or flooring stores will tell you the cost per square foot, because that is how flooring is sold. Laminate wood floor, wood flooring and vinyl tile floor are sold by the box.

Determine how many square feet in each box. Look on the box for this information.

Divide the total cost per box by the square feet in each box. This will tell you the cost per square foot.

Multiply the cost per square foot by the total square feet needed. This gives you the total cost for the entire floor.
