Rust is a terrible thing, and it always seems like it creeps in when you least expect it. There are lots of ways to clean rust from metal, but one of the more interesting and eco-friendly is baking soda. Mix the baking soda and water in the plastic cup using a Popsicle stick to stir the mixture. You want to put in enough water to achieve the consistency of peanut butter or paste.

Apply the baking soda paste to the rusted metal using the Popsicle stick as an applicator. You want to cover the rusted area fairly well.

Let the paste sit for about an hour.

Scrub off the paste with the toothbrush and wipe off any residual paste with a paper towel.
