How to Wear a Diaper for Incontinence

According to the National Association of Incontinence, 13 million Americans suffer from incontinence (See Reference 1). Incontinence can be treated or helped with surgery, behavioral treatment or diapers. If you have decided to wear diapers for your incontinence, follow these steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase adult diapers for incontinence. These come in two forms: cloth and disposable. The disposable diapers can come in pull-up form or with repositioning tape, similar to children's diapers. They can be purchased online or found in many drug and grocery stores.

    • 2

Remove your pants and underwear while in the restroom.

    • 3

If you have purchased pull-up diapers for incontinence, put your feet in the leg holes and pull up the diaper until it covers your genital area and buttocks. The diaper should fit snug like underwear once pulled up.

    • 4

If you have purchased diapers with repositioning tape, position the front of the diaper to cover your genitals while the back covers your buttocks. Taking one side at a time, pull the repositioning tape over the front of the diaper and press the tape firmly against the diaper. The fit should be snug but not too tight.

    • 5

Dress yourself as you normally would and enjoy your day. Adult diapers provide the flexibility to continue living your life normally without having to worry about embarrassing leaks.

    • 6

Remove the diaper after it has been soiled. If wearing a pull-up diaper, simply pull down the diaper until it comes off your legs and feet. If wearing diapers with repositioning tape, carefully remove the tape on each side.
