How to Replace Truck Headlight Bulbs

Like any incandescent bulb, truck headlight bulbs must be replaced occasionally because they burn out. Doing the swap isn't difficult and should take about 20 minutes to do each headlight. In this case, the vehicle is a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado, but the process is the same for other vehicles as well.

Things You'll Need

• Flat-head screwdriver
• Replacement bulb

Instructions

1. Pop the hood, and locate the headlight bulb wiring on the backside of the core support. You'll see the wiring coming out of the bulbs at a 90-degree angle to the lens.

2. Unclip the wiring to the bulb using your hands. If the socket is a bit tight, use the flat-head screwdriver to gain a little bit of extra leverage.

3. Pull off the rubber boot around the bulb socket using your hands. This will just peel back from the housing.

4. Push in the wire clips that hold the bulb in place, and pull out the bulb. Make sure not to touch the bulb itself, as it may be hot.

5. Insert the new bulb in place of the factory unit, making very sure not to touch the bulb itself with your fingers. If you do, the bulb will fail prematurely.

6. Clip the bulb in place using the wire, and replace the rubber cap. Plug the bulb back in.
