How to Plan a Vacation at Grand Targhee Resort in Wyoming
One of the premiere ski resorts in the northwest, Grand Targhee Resort in the Grand Tetons is often overshadowed by its steeper, more touristy neighbor, Jackson Hole. But if you're looking for some good powder and you want to avoid the crowds that can often clog more famous resorts, Grand Targhee may be just what you're looking for. The array of activities and nightlife in and around the resort will keep you busy for days.

1
Decide when to go. If fluffy powder is what you're after, the winter months of December through March will be your best bet. If you're more interested in summer hiking and other activities, June through August may better suit you. Either way, have an idea in mind before you start planning. Off-peak accommodation rates for some months may save you a little money if you plan ahead.

2
Think about lodging options. The resort offers hotels, townhouses and condos, and some locations are right on the slopes. Visit grantarghee.com to explore your choices and find lodging packages, and decide where you will stay based on budget and convenience.

Check out transportation. The two nearest airports are at Jackson, Wyoming, a 42-mile drive, and Idaho Falls, Idaho, an 87-mile drive. There are shuttles to Grand Targhee from both airports; reserve with the Grand Targhee lodging department at least a week before arrival.

Look into seasonal activities. In the popular winter months, take advantage of the downhill ski pass, and SnowCat tours can take you off-trail for great views and ungroomed slopes. You may also like to try out Targhee's Nordic trail: a serious workout and a natural choice for those looking for a lesser-impact winter sport.

5
Pamper yourself. For apres-ski, or if you'd just rather relax inside on a cold, stormy day, make an appointment at The Spa at Grand Targhee and treat yourself to a massage, facial or manicure.

Try the warmer off-season. In summer, the trails open up for mountain biking and alpine hiking. Targhee also hosts two annual summer music festivals: the Grand Targhee Music Festival and the Targhee Bluegrass Festival. During the warm months, a local nonprofit puts on a free weekly music series called Music on Main, usually on Thursdays, featuring nationally known bands and music groups.

Explore local dining and nightlife. At the resort, Grand Targhee has a fine-dinning restaurant, the Branding Iron. The Trap Bar serves pub food and Snorkle's, a one-stop-shop cafe, offers a variety of snacks and to-go lunch items. Or, head down the mountain and check out Driggs, which comes alive with ski-town culture during the winter months especially. Try the local hangout, Royal Wolf, to get the ins and outs of the best, off-the-beaten path skiing. Head to Warbird's Cafe, probably one of the best fine-dining restaurants in the area, featuring Friday Night Jazz.
Just eight miles from Driggs is Victor, Idaho, home of the Knotty Pine supper club, a hot-spot for ski-town bands like G Love and Special Sauce, Gracie Potter and the Nocturnals and Ben Winship.
