Cook Chicken in Bulk to Freeze
Cook Chicken in Bulk to Freeze

Often, recipes call for a certain amount of cooked chicken. Wouldn't it be nice to just pull a bag of cooked chicken out of your freezer and thaw it quickly? Have you ever found a super deal on chicken that you didn't want to pass up? Now you don't have to! Stock up and save money with low prices on chicken and you'll have your freezer full ready for meals this winter.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Chicken breasts
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp salt (optional)
  • Crock Pot
  • Freezer ZipLoc Bags
  • 2 Cup Measuring Cup
  • Permanent Marker
  1. Step 1

Make a large purchase of chicken. Watch your local supermarket ads for sales - I once got 40 lbs of chicken breasts for under $50!

  2. Step 2

Fill the crock pot with chicken as full as you can while still being able to close the lid completely. If adding salt (optional), mix it into the 1 cup of water and then add. Cover.

  3. Step 3

Set Crock Pot on HIGH for the first 2 hours. Turn to LOW after that and let the chicken cook for 4-5 more hours. Once the chicken is done, turn off crock pot and drain chicken in a colander. Catch the liquids if you want to use them as chicken broth.

  4. Step 4

Put chicken in a large bowl to cool before shredding. Once cooled, begin pulling the chicken apart in shreds, keeping all chicken inside of bowl.

  5. Step 5

Once it is all shredded, label your freezer bags with "2 cups cooked chicken". I also like to add the date. Begin measuring chicken into the 2-cup measuring cup and fill each bag with 2 cups of chicken shreds.

  6. Step 6

Zip the bags closed and remove as much air as possible. Put in the freezer and you are finished!
