These star ornaments made with construction paper are easy and inexpensive to make. Older children can make these with little help. The directions of this project is written in several steps in order to provide a photo of each little step.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • six sheets construction paper
  • scotch tape
  • stapler
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • ruler
  1. Step 1

Fold 6 sheets of construction paper diagonally. Most construction paper isn't perfectly square - fold until ends meet, resulting in a perfect triangle and trim off excess paper.

  2. Step 2

With a ruler, draw three triangles inside each sheet of folded paper (refer to photo). For demonstration sake, I used a pen. You will want to use pencil, as the point of each triangle will not be cut and will be seen when your paper star ornament is completed.

  3. Step 3

Cut along the lines drawn - Stop just before you reach the points! When the construction paper is unfolded, the triangles will be intact at each point.

  4. Step 4

Unfold each sheet of construction paper; lay flat (diamond shape). Bring together the two uncut points of the innermost diamond to form a loose roll; use scotch tape to secure.

  5. Step 5

Flip diamond over so that the first roll is face-down on work surface. Bring together the uncut points of the next diamond and secure with scotch tape as before.

  6. Step 6

Flip diamond over two more times and repeat rolling and taping. Now your construction paper project is starting to resemble a star ornament! Repeat with the remaining 5 folded sheets of paper, exactly as you did with the first sheet.

  7. Step 7

Staple together 3 ornaments at one end of the points. Staple together the remaining 3 ornaments. You now have two sections.

  8. Step 8

Staple together the two sections at the middle (my yellow and green ones are staple together in photo).

  9. Step 9

Each of the six sections are now connected to the sections on either side. Complete! Poke a tiny hole in the point of one section of your construction paper star ornament to hang.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make some star ornaments out of aluminum foil. They look great hung on a Christmas tree near twinkling lights. To do so, cut small squares (about 4" squares out of sturdy foil).
