How to Make Easy Rolled Fondant
Rolled fondant is wonderful for making simple shapes and adding a smooth texture to cakes and cookies. There are many recipes on the Internet which use a variety of ingredients and complicated steps. For a super easy fondant, follow these basic steps and then use your imagination to create your own masterpieces of colors, textures and shapes. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 1 package .25 oz of unflavored gelatin
- ¼ cup cold water
- ½ cup of corn syrup
- 1 tablespoon glycerin (found in grocery or drugstores in the first-aid aisle)
- 2 tablespoons of shortening
- 1 teaspoon any flavoring (optional)
- 8 cups (2lbs.) sifted powered confectionery sugar

Mix the water and gelatin and allow to stand undisturbed for five minutes so the gelatin dissolves.

Heat the water/gelatin mixture in the microwave for 30 seconds. Blend in the shortening and stir until it is completely melted. Add in the glycerin and corn syrup. Add the flavoring, if desired. Add coloring if desired.

Pour the sugar into a large bowl. Slowly add the water mixture and blend well.

Knead the fondant once all sugar is combined for at least three minutes. Set fondant on wax paper and allow it to sit for at least 5 to 10 minutes before using.

When ready, roll fondant into desired shape. If fondant is too moist, add more sugar and knead again. Remember, it kneading is very important in this recipe. Fondant will feel oily until dried.

Once you make your shapes, allow the fondant to dry out before placing them on cakes or cookies.
