How to Build a Lap Desk
If you do a lot of working from home, you may not want to be stuck at a desk the entire time. If you are looking for a way to do some work in bed or on the couch, you may want to consider building a simple lap desk. A lap desk is an easy thing to build and will give you a nice hard surface to place your computer on.

1
Place your 2-by-6 board on a flat surface with the 2-inch side down. Measure up 4-inches from the base and make a mark with your pencil. Then draw a line from this mark, along the entire board to the top corner. This should give you an angle which rises one inch for every foot along the board.
-
2
Repeat this measurement on the other piece of 2-by-6 board. Mark it so the board has the same angle as the first board.

3
Cut the boards along these markings with the saw. You should have two angled board once this step is complete.
-
4
Place the piece of 1-inch oak on the cut 2-by-6 so that it rests on the angled sides of the boards. The 2-by-6s should be even with the outside edges of the oak board. Attach the oak to the 2-by-6s.

5
Paint a stain on your new lap desk and let it dry.

Tips & Warnings
This desk will give you a nice angle of 1-inch to 1-foot. If you need a steeper or shallower angle, measure the 2-by-6 accordingly.
Don't place the oak board on the flat side of the 2-by-6 instead of the angled side. The desk will not sit correctly.
