How to Clean a Cast Iron Pan Burned Black
Cast iron pans are a must-have for any kitchen because they conduct and distribute heat most efficiently. These pans can be used on the stove or in the oven. The surface of cast iron is naturally a non-stick surface, but when food gets baked and burned onto its surfaces, it can be a chore to remove the mess. Soak in hot water for about thirty minutes prior to cleaning to loosen debris and stuck-on food particles.

Clean the pan with a mild cleanser. Scrub the cast iron skillet with a piece of steel wool to remove all the burnt on food.

Wash and dry cast iron pan completely.

Add enough unsalted cooking oil to completely cover the burned bottom surface and place in the oven on low heat for two to three hours. This is called "reseasoning" the pan.

Wipe out extra fat and then cool and wash with dish detergent. Dry completely and put away, uncovered, in a cool, dry place.
