How to Make Bamboo Bead Curtains

Bamboo bead curtains are used to hang in open doorways or as wall art, but never to provide privacy. You can make your own bamboo curtain with bamboo beads and supplies available from bead retailers and your local discount store. Bamboo beads come in a variety of lengths and styles; mix and match as you like. Talented artists paint the bamboo beads so the curtain creates an image. You can also paint your bamboo beads with acrylic paints, or enjoy their natural color.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a length of mono-filament line twice as long as the desired length of your bamboo bead curtain, plus 10 inches.

    • 2

Drill a small hole sideways through one end of two bamboo beads.

    • 3

Thread the drilled hole of one bead to the halfway point of your mono-filament line. Make sure that the ends of the line are even. Tie a double overhand knot close to the tip end of the mono-filament lines, opposite the bead. You should have a double strand of line, roughly 9.5 inches longer than the desired length of your curtain. Measure and mark the line 9.5 inches from the knot.

    • 4

Thread the bamboo beads over the knot and the double line, all the way up to the mark. End the strand with the second bamboo bead with the drilled hole. Thread the last bead so that the drilled hole is at the top.

    • 5

Cut a six-inch section of line. Thread the 6-inch line halfway through the drilled hole in the top bead. Tie the 6-inch line around the double mono-filament line as it exits the top of the bead. A triple overhand knot will be sufficient. Thread the excess line down into the bamboo bead. Add a drop of construction adhesive or strong craft glue over the knot for added security. This will hold the beads on the strand, even if your curtain falls.

    • 6

Tie the end of the strand onto a curtain rod. Again, a triple overhand knot secured by glue will be sufficient. Cut away the excess line.

    • 7

Repeat Steps 1 through 6 to make as many strands as you need for a full curtain.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you use different sized bamboo beads, make sure that the holes are cut to the same dimension or one bead may fall inside another.
