How to Use Ziplock Bags in a Vacuum Sealer Foodsaver
Ziplock bags are useful for short-term storage due to the ease of opening and closing the bags. The seal on these bags is not strong enough for long-term food storage. A vacuum sealer is needed for long term food storage. Ziplock bags can be sealed with a FoodSaver for a stronger seal that can be used for long-term storage. The FoodSaver will remove the air and seal the Ziplock bag, allowing the contents to stay fresh for a much longer period of time. Does this Spark an idea?

They will, it just takes a bit of work. You will also need to cut above the zipper on the bag, then cut the two sides off where the bag was sealed on the edges. You now have 2 strips of embossed plastic, one of them usually has a blue line (my Ziploc brand freezer ones do) don't use that side as it doesn't seal over the blue line very well. If cut the remaining strip of plastic in two and insert both inside the bag so they reach to the food and end at the opening of the bag (tape would probably be handy with this but I just hold the sides till I get it into the machine.. it's kinda a juggling act though). Insert the top into the vaccum chamber and turn on machine. You may also have to press cancel and the vacumm again (don't lift the lid though) since it sometimes takes the air out much slower since there are only 2 areas it's sucking air out of. Hope that all made sense, it's not... -

Regular Ziplock bags will NOT work in a foodsaver. Foodsavers and other vacuum sealers based on the same system require a special bag that has a embossed inside. This makes the air flow out of the bag, without leaving airpockets behind.
