How to Eliminate Flatulence

Flatulence, also known as gas, is a side effect of digestion that occurs in everyone. Sometimes it is caused by an excess of air being swallowed when eating too quickly or not thoroughly chewing your food. It can occur if you eat foods, such as beans, which are hard for the body to digest, or from foods you may be allergic too, such a dairy products. Whatever the cause, gas can be painful and embarrassing. Several home remedies can be tried to lessen the frequency of passing gas.

  • Ginger, fresh and dried
  • Honey
  • Dill oil
  • Brandy
  • Spice grinder
  • Pepper
  • Green Cardamom
  • Rock salt
  • Peppermint candies or teas
  • Peach leaves

Instructions

      Use ginger. Drink ginger ale. Chew on fresh ginger slices that have been soaked in lime juice after you finish a meal. Suck on ginger candies.

      Mix a teaspoon of honey and a drop of dill oil and take together after you finish eating.

      Prior to going to sleep at night, add two teaspoons of brandy to a cup of warm water and drink it.

      In a spice grinder, grind one teaspoon each of pepper, dried ginger, and green cardamom seeds. Mix one half teaspoon of the powdered mixture with a cup of water. Drink it after you finish eating.

      If you already are experiencing the effects of gas, drink a cup of warm water that has one half teaspoon dried, ground ginger and a pinch of rock salt and asafoetida mixed in it.

      Eat peppermints. Suck on peppermint candies or drink peppermint teas.

      Drink plenty of water to help you stay hydrated.

      Make teas out of ginger root or peach leaves by soaking them in hot water for five to ten minutes, or use commercial teas made of chamomile, fennel, or anise.

      Avoid foods that stimulate flatulence or foods to which you are allergic.Avoid beans. If you must use them, use dried beans and soak them overnight. Rinse them well before adding to clean cooking water. If you are lactose intolerant, use lactose-free alternatives.

      Make small changes to your lifestyle. Stop smoking. Walk after meals to stimulate the digestive processes. Take more time to chew your food thoroughly.

      Discuss gas prevention strategies with your doctor.

Tips & Warnings

  • Passing gas is a natural function. If you have to pass gas, discreetly leave the room rather than trying to hold it in.

  • See your physician if you are experiencing extreme gas pains that persist and do not get better with time. Or, if your pain becomes worse, seek medical attention immediately. Although flatulence is normal, excessive gas or extreme pain could be a sign of a more serious problem.
