How to Plan for a Children's Ministry Room
Many churches feel that a children's ministry is an essential part of the function of the church. Some dedicate a great deal of time, money and entire wings of the church to the children. Other churches do not have the resources to have a large area set aside for children's programs, but these churches can still minister to the needs of the kids by setting up a room dedicated to children's church and other ministries for kids.

1
Choose the room that will be used for children's ministries. The best option is a large room or an open area. The room should be well lit and if at all possible, it should not have any doors that lead outside. This will protect the children from getting out and will also ensure that nobody can get into the area.

2
Prepare the room for children's ministry. The room needs stain-resistant carpet or a rubber floor to protect the kids when they are playing games. Paint the room a bright, cheerful color. If there are any talented artists in the church, invite them to put together a mural in the room.

3
Choose furniture for the room. A children's ministry needs folding chairs and tables at a minimum. Additional furniture is not necessary but helpful. Folding room dividers can break up a large room so that children can be assigned to smaller groups for lessons and other activities. A pulpit for the children's pastor will help make the room feel more like church and prepare children for what it will be like to be in adult church someday. Bookshelves for toys and craft supplies are useful but not necessary. A bulletin board on one wall will allow a place for displaying the children's artwork.

4
Finish the room with special touches to make the children feel welcome. Toys help shy children warm up to children's church. If the church cannot afford to buy new toys, ask members to donate gently used items. Hang curtains in the windows. Collect some of the children's artwork and display it around the room. Finally, gather all of the people who will be working in the children's ministry together in the room for a prayer of dedication.
