Not only will the use soap and water help to prevent Swine Flu and the H1N1 virus, it will also help to prevent spreading the germs of the common colds and the flu.

Carry antibacterial germ disinfectant or hand sanitizer with you at all times. You can place a small bottle in your purse or pocketbook, in your car, at your desk or keep a bottle in your pocket. Many of the H1N1 germs are spread through touching. Anytime you feel that you have touched something infected with germs you can use it to kill the germs without having to use soap and water.

Use a tissue when you sneeze or cough. If you do not have access to a tissue then cover your mouth with the inside of your elbow by bending your arm around your face when you cough or sneeze. Encourage others to use tissues and their inner elbow when coughing and sneezing to help prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus.

Talk to your children and keep them informed on how to prevent the spread of germs. Knowledge has the power, if a child has no idea that the H1N1 virus is out there they are likely to act as they always have. Teach them caution and encourage them to not touch others. Encourage them to clean their hands with soap and water often.

Carry disinfectant wipes with you when you know that you are going out to shop. Clean the handle of the shopping cart off before you push it.

Use hand sanitizer after you have touched objects that have a high level of human contact, such as doors handles on entry ways and bathrooms to help prevent the spreading of the H1N1 virus.

Get a H1N1 vaccination in order to protect yourself from the virus. The H1N1 vaccinations are close to being ninety percent effective.

Eat proper nutrition and maintain a healthy diet. If you are maintaining a healthy lifestyle your immune system is likely to be stronger and able to help protect your system from getting the H1N1 virus.
