April showers bring May flowers, so celebrate the birthdays of friends and family with gifts of the season.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Choose a colorful gift for the birthday boy or girl that has the birthstone of May. The traditional stone is emerald, and the mystical stone is sapphire.
Step2
Send a bouquet of May's flowers, hawthorn and lily of the valley, for a sweet-smelling gift of the season. Or choose another springtime gift, such as a potted plant or a trip to botanical gardens.
Step3
Consider the astrological sign. Those born between April 20 and May 21 have the sign of Taurus and are said to be watchful and gentle, while Geminis, born May 22 to June 21, may be more curious and talkative. You may wish to choose a gift according to the receiver's astrological sign.
Step4
Celebrate the birthday of a family member in conjunction with Mother's Day, which is the second Sunday in May, and take the family out to a picnic or another family-favorite outing.
Step5
Avoid buying sale items such as Easter candy and turning them into a birthday gift.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try to choose a personal gift that shows time and thought, rather than a high price.

on 7/28/2007 Many of us don’t want another vase or picture frame. So why not a gift to change the world?

A new nonprofit website, http://www.ChangingThePresent.org lets you choose exactly what you want to accomplish: preserve an acre of the rainforest, provide books for children, fund an hour of cancer research, etc. There are thousands of donation opportunities from hundreds of leading nonprofits. You’re sure to find something that moves you.

Wish lists and registries let us share our passions with others and ensure the perfect gift. Beautiful, personalized greeting cards include a photo and description of the gift you gave.

ChangingThePresent.org is the website of a 501c3 nonprofit, so all of your money, less only a transaction fee of 3% and 30 cents to cover the credit card fee, goes to the nonprofit you choose to support.

on 1/23/2006 One year for my birthday, my suite-mate's family surprised me by taking me to the town park for a homemade picnic and an afternoon of football and Frisbee. I wasn't able to be home for my birthday, as it was the start of finals week, and the extra effort was the sweetest gift I've ever received.

on 11/22/2005 All three of my children have a May birthday about a week apart. My son, the oldest, is in the middle of the two girls, so to make each one special, they get to plan the day. They get to choose where we eat, down to what kind of cake decorations. One year I let them decorate their cake!
