Things You'll Need:
- russet potatoes (or gold Yukon)
- cookie sheet
- large plastic bowl with tight fitting lid
- canola oil or olive oil
- black peppercorn
- sea salt or seasoned salt
- knife and cutting board
- cooking spray
- salad prongs
-
Step 1
Use cooking spray to lightly coat the bottom of a large cookie sheet. Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
Step 2
Wash three medium to large sized russet potatoes. For best homemade flavor, do not peel the potato skins.
-
Step 3
Using a cutting board and knife, slice the three potatoes into wedges or fries. Remember, the thinner the fries, the quicker they will cook.
-
Step 4
Slide potato slices into a large plastic bowl. Add a few pinches of peppercorn and sea salt (or seasoned salt). Add four tablespoons (1/4 cup) of canola or olive oil.
-
Step 5
Seal plastic lid onto plastic bowl. Holding the bowl and lid carefully, shake the fries and their seasonings thoroughly.
-
Step 6
Remove lid. Using salad prongs or another utensil, place fries evenly on top of cookie sheet. Do not stack them on top of each other.
-
Step 7
Bake your fries in the oven for approximately 30-40 minutes. Be sure to check your fries and flip them over using metal salad prongs or an oven-safe spatula. Always use an oven mitt or pot holders for safety. Baking time may vary depending on the amount, size, and type of fries, as well as the oven.
-
Step 8
Take your fries out of the oven. Let cool for a few minutes. Serve and enjoy. This recipe serves two. To serve four, simply double the ingredients. For more fun, serve your homemade baked fries with a fat-free dip.
