Refrigerators can take on an unpleasant smell from pungent foods, foods that have gone bad, leaks, spills and drips. It is important to clean up those leaks, spills and drips, but sometimes they go unnoticed until a bad odor develops. Some refrigerators seem to absorb those odors and no amount of cleaning removes them. These are some very simple ways of removing refrigerator odors besides the open box of baking soda. (Remember to replace your baking soda every 3 months.) Does this Spark an idea?

      Cut a lemon in half. Use a fork to pierce the inside fruit part of the lemon. Place both lemon halves in a small shallow container. Place the container on a shelf inside your refrigerator or in one of the drawers. Replace when dried out.

      Soak 2 to 3 cotton balls in vanilla extract. Place the cotton balls in a small cup or jar. Leave it on a shelf, out of the way, inside of your refrigerator. Be sure to use real not imitation vanilla extract. Imitation vanilla extract does not have as pleasant a scent and does not last as long. Replace when you no longer smell the vanilla.

      Pour used coffee grounds into a small container, preferably glass. Place it out of the way inside of your refrigerator.

      Rinse off 2 to 3 pieces of charcoal with plain water. Place them on a thin cloth. Tie the ends of the cloth and place it inside of your refrigerator to absorb odors.
