How to Stop Junk Email Freeware
Junk email (aka spam) is a nuisance all email users must face. However, there are ways of dealing with junk email so that you never see another piece of it again. This guide shows how Gmail users can manage Gmail's free spam filter to avoid that junk mail.
Instructions
-
Create a New Gmail Account
-
1
Go to gmail.com (see Resources). Click on "Create An Account."
-
2
Type in your information, and choose an account name. This can be anything you like - remember, you are not changing your old account, so this account name won't show up (unless you'd like it to).
-
-
3
Click "I Accept" and log into your Gmail account.
Set Up Forwarding
-
4
In your Gmail account, click "Settings" in the top right corner.
-
5
Click the "Accounts and Import" tab.
-
6
Click the "Add POP3 Email Account" button.
-
7
Type in your old email address and click "Next Step."
-
8
Type in your username and password for the account and leave all the settings as is. Click "Add Account."
-
9
Check "Yes, I want to be able to send mail as <your email here>" and click "Next Step."
-
10
Enter the information about your previous email address. Click "Next Step."
-
11
Click "Send Verification." You will then receive an email in your other account. Log into that account and click the confirmation link in the email.
-
12
Go back to your Gmail account, sign out and sign back in, and go back to the Settings -> Accounts and Import section. You should now see your other email address listed. Click "Make Default" next to that email address. All messages sent out from Gmail will now be sent showing that email address as the sender.
-
13
Import your mail and contacts from your other account by clicking "Import Mail and Contacts," if you so desire.

If spam gets past Gmail's filters, click "Report Spam" before you delete it. Gmail's filters will learn what is spam and become more powerful over time.
