Treating a small wound is usually within most of our abilities but a deep wound may require medical attention, such as stitches or surgical procedures to remove dead or damaged skin. There are, however, several things that you can do to help speed the healing process.

How to Heal a Deep Wound
Avoid medicines that will hinder the healing process. These include anti-inflammatory medicines because they slow immune system cells. This also includes antiseptic creams and ointments. These can cause damage to the cells that help with wound repair. Ask your doctor which medicines you should take or avoid.
Eat healthy foods. A healthy diet keeps your body well and stimulates the healing process. Make sure you are getting enough proteins and essential fats, which are found in lean meats, fish and dairy products. These provide the body with the ability to build new tissues and speed the healing process.
Get plenty of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is rich in collagen, which is essential for tissue regeneration. It also has natural antiseptic and antibiotic properties to help guard your body against infection.
Change your wound dressing only when necessary. Wounds heal faster when they are kept warm, according to the Better Health Channel. Change the dressing only when it becomes damaged or dirty -- and do it as quickly as possible.
Maintain regular exercise. It keeps the blood circulating, which promotes healing. Ask your doctor which types of exercises you can do with your type of injury.
