Dresden china, which also may be referred to as Meissen china, takes a variety of forms. Lacy statues, colorful figurines, compote dishes and porcelain plates are all members of the Dresden classification of china. The china is delicate, semi-transparent and highly finished. Originating in Dresden, Germany, these pieces can date back as far as 1700. Much of the china from this area was destroyed in 1945 after a carpet-bombing of the city by Allied forces. All pieces are delicate, and many have lace-like facets or detailed features on figurines. Cleaning is a delicate affair, and pieces should be handled carefully.
