How to Remove Crayon Marks From Stonework

Stonework can be found in many areas of the home. From Granite counter tops to marble flooring, stone adds a durable and attractive aspect to many home features. Little artists tend to use counters and floors for their easels, and hence can leave crayon marks on stonework. Because most stonework is protected by a sealant, it is important to use caution when attempting to remove crayon or any other stain from the porous surface. Implement a common household tool and regular cleaning methods to effectively remove crayon marks from stonework.

Things You'll Need

• Cotton cloth
• Iron
• Water
• Mild liquid dish detergent
• Sponge

Instructions

1. Place a clean white cotton cloth, such as a hankerchief, over the crayon mark.

2. Plug in an iron and turn it to the medium heat setting.

3. Iron over the cotton cloth so that the crayon begins to melt and adheres to the cloth, rather than the stone.

4. Move the cloth so that a clean area is covering any remaining crayon mark on the stone and repeat the ironing process until the mark is gone.

5. Wipe the stone area with a clean sponge dampened with water and a mild liquid dish detergent. Rinse out the sponge and wipe the area again, to remove soap residue. Allow the stone to dry.
