Examine how fast your clock is running over the course of 24 hours. If the difference is small, you will need to be careful in adjustment. It's better to stay within proximity to the right time than to overcompensate. Usually, a difference of a minute or two a week in a mechanical clock is optimal.

If the time is off by several minutes, move the minute hand manually. Be cautious so you don't damage the clock. When the minute hand is close enough to standard time, you can then go about adjusting the pendulum length and clock speed.

Move the bob of the cuckoo clock up. The bob looks like a leaf or a disk. It can be adjusted by a nut or, as a friction fit, can be adjusted directly. Adjusting it will change the length of the pendulum's swing and bring it closer to the time. Moving the bob down lengthens the swing and slows down the clock. Conversely, moving the bob up shortens the swing and speeds up the clock.

Measure the difference again over 24 hours. If it has gotten close, measure it over the course of a week. For mechanical clocks, the difference of three minutes over a week is considered optimal. For electronic and quartz clocks, the time should be exact. Make small adjustments.
