How to Clean an Enema Bag
Foods that are high in fat, sugar and carbohydrates cause a layer of mucous to form on the intestinal walls. This is your body's natural way of protecting itself from unnecessary toxins. The downside to the mucous is that it prevents your body from absorbing nutrients as efficiently as it should. A regular enema can help clear the lower portion of the digestive tract of mucous. Since enemas are inserted in the rectum and are typically used more than once, it is important to clean and sanitize the equipment after each use.

1
Rinse the enema equipment with water immediately after using it. Fill the bag with water, shake it up and squeeze the water back out. Repeat this two more times.
-
2
Mix a solution of bleach and hot water. Use a tablespoon of bleach for each quart of water. It is easiest to do this in a sink or bathtub.
-
-
3
Soak the enema equipment in the bleach solution for 30 minutes. This will sterilize the equipment and break up any residue that may be stuck to the inside lining of the bag.
-
4
Rinse the equipment as in Step 1 five more times. It is vital that no bleach remains inside or on the enema.
-
5
Wipe the outside of the equipment with baby wipes. Pay extra attention to creases and crevices.
-
6
Wipe the equipment dry with a clean towel. Hang the bag to dry with the nozzle side facing down.
